The iconic Warner Brother movie released in November of 1942, Casablanca, stole the hearts of moviegoers everywhere. Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman are the stars of the movie. Their unmatched love for one another has captured the hearts of lovebirds around the world in such a way that hasn’t been done since the more current blockbuster release of The Notebook.
Now, 70 years later, this frenzy of love and adornment is rekindled. The iconic piano that the Bogart and Bergman couple socializes around is going up for auction, again. The piano was purchased at an auction by a Japanese collector who purchased the piano originally at Sotheby’s auction house in 1988 for $154,000. It is only appropriate, therefore, that the piano be auctioned off again at the same auction house, Sotheby’s.
On December 14th 2012, the piano will go up for auction at Sotheby’s auction house. The piano is estimated to be worth $1.2 Million, quite a price increase despite taking inflation into consideration.
What makes this one of a kind piano so valuable is essentially one scene in the movie. Humphrey and Bogart are both leaning up against the piano while sipping champagne and Bogart dropped the ever so famous line of, “Here’s lookin’ at you, kid.”
Due to high demand, Sotheby’s and the current Japanese owner have allowed the piano to be put on display for a few days for the public to view it. The exhibition will take place in New York at Sotheby’s. The exhibition times are as follows:
